Board Meeting Minutes 2.2.2012

Attendees: Tom Arbogast, Rob Burton, Avery Lovejoy, David Linz, Matt Greene 

Meeting minutes:
  1. Tom kicked off the meeting with the topic of the 2011 City Championship. Several possible formats and venues were discussed, including
    1. A traditional two/three day weekend tournament to be held in April with standard entry fees and format to be held at the Rivers Club
    2. A 5-week long, self scheduling tournament, with standard draw formats and ranking flights.
      1. Matches would be played once a per week and would be scheduled individually
      2. The tournament would be free to all PSQ members.
      3. The finals of all draws would be played on the evening of April 19th [date to be confirmed] at the Rivers Club
      4. PSQ wouls also hold its annual year end event following the finals, with city and league awardspresented and food/drinks provided, at the Rivers Club
    3. The Board decided the second format would allow for the greatest participation across the pittsburgh squash community and agreed to send out initial notifications within two weeks.
    4. Play will begin the second week of March for the largest draws
    5. Skill level draws will include: 5.0, 4.0, 3.5, 3.0, 2.5 while age draws will include a 40+ and 55+. PSQ is targeting to release finalized draws at the end of February.
    6. Sign up details to be distributed through the PSQ website and email lists
  2. David Linz then provided an update on the progress of the Pittsburgh Youth Squash Program then discussed goals for next year
    1. The program, begun this year, is currently working with the University of Pittsburgh's P.L.A.Y.E.R.S. program, which provides a 10-week activity for underprivledged youth as well as court time at the University's facilities
    2. The program has held three sessions to date (Saturday mornings at 10:30am) and have had 15 students and 10 volunteers participate
    3. David then laid out the goals for building the program into a SquashBusters type organization.  Current initiatives include soliciting Board memberships (8-12 members would be ideal), finding a full time program director, and establishing 503(c) status, begin fundraising initiatives,
  3. Deferred topics included: 2012 Pittsburgh Open, including feedback on the 2011 tournament and planning for 2012; PSQ finances; and the PSQ website and facebook.  Any Board members or PSQ members interested in participating in the organization of any of these events should contact Tom.
  4. Final topic of the meeting was scheduling, with the proposed date ofSeptember 3, 2012 at 6:00 pm agreed upon.  The location of the meeting will be The Rivers Club
