PSQ Box League Guidelines

PSQ Box League Guidelines

The box league is provided as a service to the Pittsburgh Squash community. It is intended to encourage friendly competition and aid players in finding partners at their approximate level of skill. We try to keep the rules as simple and unbureaucratic as possible.

Box league rules

  • In each 6 week play cycle, you should play all opponents in your box.
  • All match scores must be reported by the match winner on the US Squash website as soon as possible after the match.
  • Scoring works as follows:
    • 1 point for playing a match
    • 1 point for each game won
    • 1 point for winning a match
    • A forfeit is to be recorded as a defaulted match.  5 points will be awarded to the winner.
  • In general, at the end of each play cycle, the two players with the highest total scores in each box (except box 1) will ascend to the next highest box. The two players with the lowest scores in each box (except the lowest box) will drop to the next lowest box. The middle player(s) will remain in the same box. So for the next cycle, each box will have four new players (except for the first and last box, which will each have two new players).
  • Tie-breaking procedure: (1) head-to-head result; (2) total matches won; (3) total games lost.
  • Participants in the Box League are expected to play all of their matches during each cycle (one match with each of the other players in your box).  Active participation by all players is essential for the success of the Box League.  Any player who plays zero matches during a cycle will be removed from the next 6 week cycle of the Box League.  If that player wishes to continue their active participation in the league, they can simply send an email request to the administrator to be added back in to the next cycle.
  • If you would like to be deactivated for any reason (that is-sit out play in one or more cycles), please contact the league commissioner by email well before the start of the cycle.

Inactivity Policy

  • Active participation by all players is essential for the success of the Box League.
  • Any player who does not plays zero matches during a cycle will be removed from the next 6 week cycle of the Box League.  If that player wishes to continue their active participation in the league, they can simply send an email request to the Commissioner to be added back in to the next cycle.
